Learn to create clear glass, frosted glass & mirror with v-ray for sketchup

In this sketchup vray tutorial, one can learn how to use v-ray for sketchup to create clear glass, frosted glass and mirror.

To make this tutorial, v-ray material editor plays an important role. Material editor is extracted from the icon located below VRay for SketchUp tool box or from Material Editor located at Plugins V-Ray tab.

V-Ray for SketchUp ‘s Material Editor contains three parts:

A. Material Workplace – It demonstrates all the selected materials. Right click to add, import, export, rename, pack, remove, and choose the objects maintaining present materials like allotting existing materials to the selected objects, removing materials which are unused in the scene, and inserting layers with reflections, refractions to the materials.

B. Material Preview – The Update Preview button facilitates the users to preview the revised materials.

C. Options for material control – The options adjust with the added scene materials in section A.

Brief overview of displacement map in v-ray for sketchup

This is an exclusive tutorial on V-Ray for SketchUp 3.4 beta where one can learn how to apply displacement feature in V-ray for Sketchup.

The displacement feature allows you to deform a geometry with the help of an image. Deformation will work best and will be maximum for white images and for black images it will not work. The image should always be grayscale.

The major usages of the displacement in V-Ray for SketchUp can be found in lawns, stone gables, apparent masonry, carpets.

Displacement facilitates the users to reproduce the texture of a surface with the use of a black and white image to define the changeable height of the surface.

Displacement truly generates the geometry that is defined by the image. It is performed by subdividing a specified piece of geometry and modifying the individual heights of all of the faces on the basis of the image that it is explaining. The outcome is a surface that provides a much more precise and accurate result.

How to include Displacement: The users may apply their current bump maps as displacement maps. In the Maps rollout of the material options there exist an option for Displacement. Allow displacement by ticking the check box on the left, and continue to tick on the “m” for the inclusion of a displacement map. Though the textures are applied for displacement maps in several cases, it is likely to include a displacement map through the procedural mapping.
